Q. Who of the following wrote the treatise ‘Haqaiq-i-Hindi’?
Answer: Abdul Wahid Bilgrami
Notes: Haqaiq-i-Hind was written by Abdul Wahid Bilgrami. He was a Sufi saint. It is a treatise which tries to explain such words as ‘Krishna’, ‘Murli’, ‘Gopis’, ‘Radhas’, ‘Yamuna’, etc. in Sufi. The fact that such a book had to be written by a Sufi saint so as to connect with the common people is a testimony to the growing popularity of Hindi. It was very common for the Sufi saints to speak and write in the language of commoners. Basically, Bilgrami was intending to explain the use of the Vaishnavite themes in the Hindi poetry recited by the Chishti Sufis.
