Notes: Baroda State, founded in 1721 by the Gaekwad dynasty, was a Maratha princely state in present-day Gujarat with Vadodara as its capital. It had four prants: Kadi, Baroda, Navsari, and Amreli. The Gaekwads acknowledged British suzerainty post-1805, retaining internal autonomy. The state established the Bank of Baroda (1908) and Baroda Legislative Assembly. It owned the Gaekwar's Baroda State Railway 's first narrow-gauge railway (1862). The royal succession followed male primogeniture. The Most Noble Order of the Rising Sun was instituted by Sayajirao Gaekwad III. Baroda merged into India in 1949.
