National Zoological Park, New Delhi
Recently, the National Zoological Park (NZP) in Delhi received a pair of smooth-coated otters from Surat in a rare animal exchange after 20 years. Smooth-coated otter is the only living species of the genus Lutrogale. They are found in southern and Southeast Asia, China, India, and a small population in Iraq. Habitat includes lowlands, mangrove forests, freshwater wetlands, large rivers, lakes, and rice paddies. They are the largest otter in Southeast Asia with smooth, short brown fur and water-repellent guard hairs.
