Recently, the Assam government launched a milk subsidy scheme to support dairy farmers with ₹5 per litre of milk. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the scheme to boost milk production and increase farmer income in rural areas. During the launch, he performed 'bhoomi pujan' for the expansion of the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) plant in Panjabari, Guwahati. The plant’s capacity will double from 1.5 lakh litres per day (LLPD) to 3 LLPD under a ₹104-crore project.
