Aurangzeb imprisoned his father, Shah Jahan, in Agra Fort from 1658 until Shah Jahan's death in 1666. He was cared for by his daughter, Jahanara Begum, and spent his final years in the Musamman Burj, overlooking the Taj Mahal. Aurangzeb's rule emphasized orthodox Sunni Islam and expanded the Mughal Empire to its greatest extent.
