Devaraya II was succeeded by various weak and vicious kings which would have would have caused the dismemberment of the the Sangama dynasty empire, had not Saluva Narasimha, an able commander assumed power (1485). His ascension to power paved way for the rule of Saluva dynasty (1485-1505) for a short while. It was during this period Portuguese navigator Vasco-da-Gama landed on the western coast at Calicut in 1498.
