Bharatanatyam or Sadhir Attam is a classical dance form mainly from South India. Bhavam, Ragam and Taalam are included in this dance form. 'Bha' is taken from Bhavam, 'Ra' from Ragam and 'Ta' from Talam. Hence the name Bharatanatyam has come into existence. It is based on Bharata Muni's Natya Shastra (which dates back to 400 BC). At present, this dance form is mainly practiced by women. The inspiration for this dance form comes from the sculptures of the ancient temple of Chidambaram.
