Notes: The Union Budget 2024-25 plans to develop corridor projects for two important temples in Bihar: Vishnupad Temple in Gaya and Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Vishnupad Temple is on the Phalgu riverbanks in Gaya, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It features a footprint believed to mark Lord Vishnu’s defeat of a demon. Built in 1787 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar, it stands 100 feet tall with 44 granite pillars. It’s especially visited during Pitra Paksha and has been served by Gayawal Brahmins. Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya is where Gautam Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment. Originally built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC, the current structure dates to the 5th–6th centuries. It includes a 50-meter high temple, the Vajrasana, and other sacred sites, and is a significant early example of brick temple architecture.
