The average concentration of a pollutant in ambient air, such as lead, is represented in micrograms (µg) per cubic meter (m³). The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India has set the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, which allows an average exposure of up to 1.5 µg/m³ of lead by a person in a year in an industrial area. This authoritative capability of the CPCB is endowed by the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
