Gharials, critically endangered freshwater reptiles, are primarily found in India and Nepal, especially in the Indus, Ganga, and Brahmaputra rivers. Their populations are restricted to 14 locations due to habitat loss. Notably, Odisha is the only Indian state with all three crocodile species. The Gharial Telemetry Project uses biotelemetry to monitor Gharials, assessing their health and investigating mortality events.
