Answer: Providing electricity to rural families living below poverty line
Notes: On the occasion of Nehru Centenary Year (1988-89), the government started the Kutir Jyoti program to provide single point light connections to the families of rural poor families below the poverty line. These included Harijans and Adivasi families. The program had come under criticism for the steep increase in Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses.
