Kriplani, Anugrah Narayan Sinha etc. were imprisoned here during the Struggle for India's Independence. Jagat Narayan Lal was  a freedom fighter who played a major role in making the modern Bihar. He was a significant contributor to the debates and issues that chartered the course of the Indian independence.
