Recently, the Malamuzhakki Vezhambal (Great Hornbill), Kerala’s State Bird, was spotted in the coastal area of Kakkampara near Ezhimala, far from its usual forest habitat. The Great Hornbill is also known as the concave-casqued hornbill, great Indian hornbill, or great pied hornbill. It is found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. In India, it lives in forested regions of the Western Ghats and along the Himalayas. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, its conservation status is Vulnerable.
