Gatka is an ancient Sikh martial art from Punjab. It has been thoroughly tested in war and has been in northern India for many thousands of years. It is considered a spiritual and physical exercise. It is based on the fundamental goal of uniting mind, body and spirit in the rhythm of life so that a holy soldier can be trained to defend himself. Attack and defense in this art form are determined by the arm and leg areas and the nature of the weapon used. It is featured in many state festivals and exhibitions.
