Notes: Kesaria Stupa is the world’s largest Buddhist Stupa. It is situated 110 km from Patna in the Champaran district. This remarkable structure was discovered by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 1998. The stupa is believed to be built to honour the place where Buddha had spent the last days of his journey, before attaining Nirvana. The estimated time of construction of this structure has been put in between 200 AD and 750 AD. It was recently in the news when Raghubar Das, the chief minister of Jharkhand, announced to construct the world’s tallest “Buddha” stupa at Itkhori in Jharkhand.
