Notes: The Vadhavan Port is to be developed on the western coast near Dahanu in Maharashtra. Recently, the cabinet gave an in principle approval for the development of the approximately 65,544 crore INR project. The project is expected to aid India’s entry into the list of countries with top 10 container ports globally. The Vadhavan Port is to be developed in the landlord model. In this model, a publicly governed port authority will act as the regulatory body while the private port operators will carry out the port operations such as cargo handling activities. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust is to lead the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the development of the Vadhavan Port. It is to have equity participation equal to or more than 50 per cent to implement the port project. The business activities will be carried out in a PPP model.
