Article 334 of the Indian Constitution ensures the reservation of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Anglo-Indians. The provision for Anglo-Indians was made to promote their representation, with appointments by the President. The 95th Constitutional Amendment in 2009 extended SC and ST reservations until January 25, 2020, and the cabinet has since decided to prolong this system for another decade.
