Context: In first week of March 2021, the ARMEX-21, a major skiing expedition was launched by the Indian Army from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, covering around 1,500 km distance. This comes to close proximity with the LAC in Ladakh, Himachal, Garhwal and Kumaon sectors. The aim was to prevent Chinese expansion into India’s northern borders by marking Indian presence in “unheld” areas. The expedition was done amid border tensions between India and China.
