Notes: Arya Samaj was founded by Dayanand Saraswati in 1875; it promoted Vedic teachings and social reform. Its Lahore branch started in 1877. Brahmo Samaj was started by Raja Rammohan Roy in 1828, and Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897.
