Notes: The period of WWI witnessed the growth of revolutionary movement. Many Indians began to plan a violent rebellion to overthrow British rule. Indian revolutionaries in the United States of America and Canada had established the Ghadar Party in 1913. Most of the members of the party were Punjabi Sikh peasants and ex-soldiers who had migrated in search of livelihood, and who faced the brunt of racial and economic discrimination. Lala Hardayal, Mohammed Barkatullah, Bhagwan Singh, Ram Chandra and Sohan Singh Bhakna were some the prominent leaders of Ghadar party. Inspired by the Ghadar Party, 700 men of the 5th Light Infantry at Singapore revolted under the leadership of Jamadar Chishti Khan and Subedar Dundey Khan. Madam Cama had carried on revolutionary activities and propaganda in Europe during WWI.
