Samuel F. B. Morse
Samuel Morse, an American painter, contributed to the invention of a single-wire electric telegraph system based on European telegraphs in 1837. He was a co-developer of the Morse code and helped to develop the commercial use of telegraphy. However, the first working telegraph was built by the English inventor Francis Ronalds in 1816 and used static electricity.
