Recent excavations at Dholavira in modern Gujarat has discovered remains of massive stadiums within the ancient Harappan city, the largest almost 275 meters long, 100 meters wide and capacity for over 10,000 spectators. This highlights the significance of public events, ceremonies, fairs and possibly sporting meets to Indus people involving audiences from across the region. The stadium ruins include contoured seating with high fortified walls and entry gates pointing to high levels of civic planning.
