Notes: The European Union (EU) is holding its first live military exercises in Spain from October 16-22. The exercises are called Live Exercise (LIVEX) and are part of the MILEX 23 military drills. The exercises are taking place at the Rota naval base near the southern city of Cadiz. The exercises involve a simulated landing on Spanish beaches to secure a harbor of a fictitious country. The exercises are the first time the EU has planned and executed a major air-sea-amphibious military exercise without leaning on NATO structures. 2,800 men and women from several European Union Member States are taking part in the exercises.
