Every year on June 13, the world observes International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) to support the human rights of people with albinism. Albinism is a genetic condition that affects 1 in 5,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa and 1 in 20,000 in Europe and North America, according to the United Nations (UN). The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared IAAD on December 18, 2014, and the first observance was held on June 13, 2015. The 2025 observance marks the 10th anniversary with the theme “Demanding our rights: Protecting our skin, Preserving our lives”.
