Q. Which among the following sites has given the earliest evidence of agriculture in Indian Subcontinent?
Answer: Mehrgarh
Notes: The earliest evidence of agriculture in the Indian subcontinent is found at the site of Mehrgarh, located in present-day Pakistan. The site dates back to approximately 7000 BCE and is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Mehrgarh is located on the banks of the Bolan River in present-day Balochistan, Pakistan. The people here cultivated wheat and barley and reared sheep, goats, and other animals. Weaving baskets, tools, and beads have been found in large quantities from Mehrgarh. The site was discovered in 1974 by the French Archaeological Mission led by the French archaeologists Jean-François Jarrige and his wife, Catherine Jarrige. Mehrgarh was excavated continuously between 1974 and 1986, and again from 1997 to 2000.
