Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new beetle species named Clinidium lalitae. It was found in the Talle Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh. The beetle is named in honour of Dr. Lalita Ray Chaudhury, a renowned coleopterologist and former ZSI scientist. Clinidium lalitae is part of a rare group of ground beetles known for living on forest floors. It has a unique body structure that makes it different from other beetles. These beetles help maintain soil health and support nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems.
