What is TDSAT?
Q. What is TDSAT?
Answer: A Tribunal
Notes: Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) is an Indian tribunal that was established in 2000 to resolve disputes in the telecommunications sector. TDSAT's goals are to protect the interests of service providers and consumers, and to promote the orderly growth of the telecommunications sector. TDSAT was established by the Central Government under Section 14 of the TRAI Act, 1997. The TRAI Act was amended by an ordinance in 2000, and TDSAT took over the adjudicatory and disputes functions from TRAI. TDSAT's responsibilities include:
  1. Adjudicating disputes
  2. Disposing of appeals
  3. Protecting the interests of service providers and consumers
  4. Promoting the orderly growth of the telecommunications sector
TDSAT's orders are executable as a decree of a civil court. However, complaints from individual consumers should be filed with the District, State, or National Disputes Redressal Forum under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.
