6th October Bridge is a 20.5 km concrete bridge constructed across the Nile River between 1969 and 1996 connecting the Gezira Island and Downtown Cairo and Cairo International Airport of Egypt. This bridge commemorates the date of the crossing under Operation Badr in which Egypt initiated to cross the Suez Canal and seize the Bar-Lev Line of Israeli fortifications, which commenced the outbreak of Yom Kippur War in 1973. This bridge has been called the "spinal cord" of Cairo. This bridge was also a major landmark area of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011.
