The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently released the Telecommunication Tariff Order 2025 for retail broadband under the PM-WANI Scheme. PM-WANI stands for Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface and was approved by the Union Cabinet on 9 December 2020. It aims to expand affordable broadband access through Public Wi-Fi networks across India, supporting the National Digital Communications Policy, 2018. As of now, there are 3,33,215 PM-WANI hotspots, 205 Public Data Office (PDO) Aggregators, and 111 App Providers in India.
