Jinnah himself was a nonpracticing Muslim but he mobilized Islamic zealotry to consolidate the incipient notion of Muslim nationalism and spread a sense of “community” among Muslims who were otherwise widely separated by region, language, and class. He was nowhere in the scene when All India Muslim League was founded. He was an ardent opposer to Khilafat advocacy. Yes, he was a prominent leader of All India Home Rule League.
