Q. Monolithic human figures carved from rock called Moai Statues , which are also counted under seven forgotten wonders of the mediaeval world are located in which country?
Answer: Chile
Notes: Moai statues are located on Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, in Chile. The Rapa Nui people carved the statues from 1250 to 1500. They were built to commemorate important ancestors and to temporarily contain their spirits. The statues range in height from 2 to 20 meters (6.6 to 65.6 feet) and weigh many tons. They resemble enormous heads, but they have bodies beneath the ground. Some Moai faces were decorated with coral eyes. The statues were still standing when Europeans first visited the island, but all of them had fallen by the latter part of the 19th century. Nearly half of the statues are still at Rano Raraku, the main moai quarry. Hundreds were transported from there and set on stone platforms called ahu around the island's perimeter.
