The food in lieu of national work program was launched by the government on 14 November 2004 in 150 most backward districts of India. The objective of the program was to provide additional resources to 150 most backward districts available under the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) to create supplementary wage employment and provide food security through creation of need-based economic growth in these districts. , social and community assets were further accelerated.
