Notes: India's first satellite, Aryabhatta, was launched on April 19, 1975. The satellite was named after the famous Indian astronomer Aryabhata. It was designed and built in India by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The Soviet Union launched the satellite using a Kosmos-3M rocket from Kapustin Yar, a Soviet rocket launch site in Astrakhan Oblast. The launch was part of the Soviet Interkosmos programme.
