Akbar was born on 15 October 1542 in Umerkot, Sindh. He was raised in Kabul during his father Humayun's exile. He became emperor at 13 in 1556 under Bairam Khan's regency. Illiterate but culturally inclined, he commissioned Persian translations of classical works. His reign established a centralized administration and the Mansabdari system in Mughal governance.
