Q. ‘Green Tugs Transition Programme (GTTP)’ has been launched recently:
Answer: For operating green tugs in all major ports by 2025.
Notes: The Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) was launched by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW). The program aims to make India a global hub for building green ships by 2030. The program will convert tugboats used in ports to "green tugs" that run on non-fossil fuels such as methanol, hydrogen, or ammonia. The first green tugs are expected to start working in all major ports by 2025. Tugboats are marine vessels that maneuver ships by pushing or pulling them, mostly using tow lines. The Green Tug Transition Programme will start with "Green Hybrid Tugs" that are powered by Green Hybrid Propulsion systems. These tugs will eventually adopt non-fossil fuel solutions like methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen.
