Notes: The first arrest of Mahatma Gandhi happened in South Africa on 10 January, 1908 for failing to register or to leave Transvaal. He was sentenced to two months simple imprisonment but then was released on 30th January, following a compromise. In India, his first arrest happened at Palwal (in current Haryana) on 10 April, 1919 while he was on way to Amritsar during initial phase of Non-cooperation Movement.
