Q. Consider the following statements:
  1. Initially, the constitutional framers of India were in opinion to bring in a unitary type of Government.
  2. There was acute awareness that Indian society had a regional diversity and a linguistic diversity.
Which of the above is / are correct?

Answer: Only 2
Notes: The first statement is patently false. The constitution framers of India were never in opinion of bringing in a unitary government. Even before Independence, most leaders of our national movements were aware that to govern a large country like ours, it would be necessary to divide the powers between provinces and the Central Government. There was also awareness that Indian society had a regional diversity and a linguistic diversity. This diversity needed recognition. People of different regions and languages had to share power and in each region, people of that region had to govern themselves.
