Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra to be inaugurated by PM

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the ‘Rashtriya Swachhta Kendra’ on August 8 as an interactive experience centre on the Swachh Bharat Mission in the country. This was first announced on April 10, 2017, as a tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the Gandhiji’s ‘Champaran Satyagraha’.

What is Rashtriya Swachhta Kendra?

The installations at the RSK will introduce future generations to the successful implementation of the world’s largest behaviour change pattern, Swachh Bharat Mission. A balanced mix of a digital and outdoor installation at these centres will impart information, awareness and education of cleanliness and related aspects. The complex interplay of processes and activities will be presented through assimilative learning, best practices, global benchmarks, success stories and thematic messages in an interactive format.

Swachh Bharat Mission

The Swachh Bharat Mission was launched in 2014 in order to create Open Defecation Free India and in the first phase, it was for five years. Now, this has successfully transformed rural sanitation in the country and has also changed the behaviour of around 55 crore people in the country from open defecation to using a toilet. This mission is now in its second phase and the objective in this phase is to take India’s villages from ODF status to the ODF+ status with a strong focus on sustainability.
