World Population to Hit 7.9 Billion on 2023 New Year’s Day

The US Census Bureau, on December 30, 2022, projected that the global population will hit 7.9 billion on the 2023 New Year’s Day.

About the US Census Bureau’s population projections

Global Population Scenario

The UN expects the global population to reach 8 billion on November 15, 2023. The number is expected to keep increasing until the end of the 21st century. The majority of the population growth is happening in Asia, which had added 700 million people over the past 6 years.

In 2023, India’s population number is expected to surpass China, making it the world’s most populated country. However, the US Census Bureau’s International Database forecasts that India’s population would surpass China only by the year 2025.

Nigeria is expected to surpass the US to become the third most populated country in the world with around 388 million people by 2045.

Currently, the pace of the global population growth is slowing down. While it took just 12 years for the population to reach 8 billion, it is likely to take another 15 years for the world’s population to hit the 9 million mark.
