Ileum which is the final section of the alimentary canal is specifically adapted to have an increased surface area to increase the rate of absorption of digested food products in our body. The factors that attribute to the increase the surface area of ileum are the length of Ileum, the Villi and microvilli. The specialization of the ileum is absorption of the food and the above factors further refine the process of absorption of food.
