The immediate and primary priority of Indian government is to target central aid for the poor. They must be included as change agents in the roadmap for clean energy. Explain.

The Indian government has recently committed to an uninterrupted power supply due to the use of renewable energy sources. The immediate priority for India should be the provision of better central aid for the poor. The growth should be based on three dimensions:

  • Improved targeting of central aid for the poor. There should be an apparent shift of agricultural demand towards solar energy. It is helpful for farmers to reduce the daytime supply and bring down seasonal peak for discoms
  • The government has already given nod for the Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) which offers 30 per cent benchmark cost as central aid and also requires the state for matching the 30 per cent subsidy.
  • Another important step is being taken by the Maharashtra government in the form of Solar Agriculture Feeder Programme. It seeks to wipe off the fiscal burden on farmers and also ensure the reliability of supply with grid connectivity.

The government should also give increased financial aid for expansion of the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme in light of the rising temperatures
