What is Cold Atom Laboratory? Discuss its role and functions.

The Cold Atom Laboratory (CAL) is a facility built by NASA that has been designed to fly onto the International Space Station (ISS).
Roles and Functions
Achieving very low temperatures is a pre-requisite to study ultra cold gases. But; very low temperatures are prevented on Earth because of its gravitational pull. Hence, this is possible only in space; the experiments will be conducted there. It will use the temperature regime and force free environment available in space to form and create ultra cold quantum gases for their studies.
