What is Bounce Rate?

Bounce Rate is a measure of website traffic and stands for single-page visits on the website. It defines the visitors who visit the website without undertaking any other activity like visiting any other link on the site. The visitors thus limit their activity to landing page only and exit on the next one. It is used to measure the performance of emails, websites, campaigns, etc. It is stated in percentage. Various visitor actions which are identified that his/her expectations were not met and can be regarded as bounce are:

  • Click on the back button
  • Close the browser
  • Types new URL
  • No activity
  • External Link

Likewise, there is an email bounce rate which denotes the percentage of emails addresses which were not able to receive the emails. It is of two types:

  • Soft email bounce: The email address was correct but was rejected by the recipient’s mail server.
  • Hard email bounce: The intended email address was void.
