Veer Savarkar

Veer Savarkar is an Indian freedom fighter born in Bhagur village in Nashik district of Maharashtra on May 28, 1883. Prime Minister Modi paid tributes on Savarkar’s birth anniversary.

Savarkar was the founder of the Mitra Mela – a secret society working for the cause of Indian freedom movement. In 1909, he authored a book titled “The History of the War of Indian Independence”. In this book, he analysed the 1857 uprising, which is also known as the First War of Independence. In 1911, he was incarcerated at the Cellular Jail of Andamans for rebelling against the Morley-Minto reforms.
