Hwasong-15: North Korea’s Intercontinental ballistic missile

The HWASONG-15 is one of the three major ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) of North Korea. All the ICBMs of North Korea use liquid propellants. North Korean missiles are of big trouble and great concern to the west for this reason. The liquid fuels used in the ICBMs of North Korean missiles can stay stable only under controlled conditions. The solid-fueled ICBMs are difficult to detect and NK is now building them.

HWASONG-15

North Korea recently demonstrated the HWASONG-15. The missile had its maiden flight in 2017. HWASAONG has the capability to reach the mainland of the USA. It can reach altitudes of 4,475 km and travel 950 km downrange.

There are two chambers in the engines of HWASONG-15. Earlier versions like HWASONG-14 and HWASONG-12 had only one chamber.

Launch Vehicle

The launch vehicle of HWASONG 15 is huge. It has nine axles. The missile vehicles are generally referred to as the Transporter Erector Launcher. These vehicles can carry missiles and can erect them for launch.

North Korea Crisis and HWASONG

The recent 2017 North Korean crisis began when the country test-fired its first HWASONG 15 missile. The test was successful. In July 2017, North Korea conducted a series of nuclear tests including the HWASONG 15 to display its nuclear capability. With this, the US and the world countries concluded that North Korea is producing missiles at a faster rate than they believe. There was a possibility of war. However, the tensions eased in 2018.
