Grant Allocation and Recipients

The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs allocated Rs 35.52 crore to the Central Council of Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) and Rs 9.81 crore to the National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) Bengaluru. Boosting the Body’s Self-Healing Power

Unani medicine, rooted in ancient Greek doctrines, follows a holistic approach to natural healing and general well-being. The Ayush ministry highlights that the fundamental principle of Unani medicine is to enhance the body’s self-healing power. This traditional healing system recognizes the innate capacity of the body to heal itself and focuses on bolstering this ability.

Alternative Treatments in India

Apart from Unani medicine, Ayurveda and homoeopathy are the other two popular alternative treatments in India. These traditional systems of medicine have gained recognition for their holistic approaches and natural healing methods. The Ministry of Ayush acknowledges their significance in providing alternative healthcare options to the people.

Development Initiatives

The grant provided by the Union Ministry will facilitate the development of various Unani medicine-related facilities. The Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine in Chennai will establish a preclinical laboratory facility, promoting research and innovation in the field. Additionally, a center of Ilaj bit Tadbeer for musculoskeletal disorders will be established at the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine in Lucknow. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of Unani healthcare and address specific health concerns.

NIUM’s Initiatives

NIUM, Bengaluru, will utilize its grant for multiple initiatives. It will establish a Vishram Girah (resting place) for patients’ attendants, ensuring a comfortable environment for the well-being of patients and their families. Additionally, there will be the establishment of a center specializing in Unani cosmetic care, a small-sized Unani pharmacy, and a storage facility for Unani crude drugs. These initiatives demonstrate the comprehensive approach taken by NIUM to promote Unani medicine and enhance its accessibility.
