4th round of UDAN scheme launched

The centre has launched the 4th leg of the UDAN scheme in the first week of December, 2019. The UDAN or Ude Desh ka Aam Nagarik scheme is a regional connectivity scheme introduced in 2016. It is a component under the National Civil Aviation Policy and is expected to function for a period of 10 years. The scheme is aimed at improving connectivity through air route in un-served and under-served regions of the country. This is to be achieved by revival of existing airports and air strips. Over the last 3 years the centre had awarded about 700 routes under the scheme. The 4th leg will focus on developing air connectivity in hilly states, islands, north-east region, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. The centre looks to operationalise more than a 100 airports and 1000 air routes over the next 5 years.
