Valley: Floods, Destruction and Infiltration attempts

Lt Gen Subrata Saha, the General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Indian Army has expressed concerns over the number of infiltration attempts being carried on by more than 200 militants who are waiting for opportunity to cross into the Indian border. These militants the officer said are heavily armed and are taking advantage of the flood situation to sneak into the valley.
He stated that despite the loss to Army due to floods which had inundated more than 50% of cantonment area, the security cover and grid was never let lose or lessen. This had to be maintained looking at the increased activity of the intruders. He praised the foolproof and robust counter-terrorism and counter insurgency grid owing to which Army has had many successes in dealing with intruders. The recent killing of a top militant commander Umar Bhat is because of the alertness and preparedness of our defense structures. The Gen said that army had played a vital and critical role in rescuing thousands of people and taking them to safer places, providing food and medicines to others in time of the worst floods to have hit the valley. “We had to first save the people who were caught in the farthest points. We adopted a logical sequence of evacuation and first helped the people who were at a greater risk.”
He said the incidents of stone-pelting on the relief teams were totally planned by some anti-social elements as most of the youth who were involved came from unaffected areas.
