Taiwan Strait

The Taiwan Strait is a 180 km wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and Asian continent. Also known as the Formosa Strait, it is part of the South China Sea. The whole of the strait is located on Asia’s continental shelf. Recently, amid the escalating tensions at the Indo-Pacific, the guided-missile destroyer USS John S McCain, belonging to the US’ 7th Fleet, passed through this strait.
