Swachhata Pakhwada

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs celebrated Swachhata Pakhwada from 16th to 30th April 2023. This annual event is a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which is a flagship programme initiated by the Central Government to fulfill Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean and hygienic India.

  • The Swachhata Pakhwada was launched during the second fortnight of April 2023, following the Calendar of Swachhata Pakhwada for the year 2023 released by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
  • During the Swachhata Pakhwada, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs carried out various activities to promote cleanliness and hygiene. Some of these activities included a cleanliness drive, reviewing and weeding out of old physical files, identifying old obsolete items for auction, cleaning of electrical switchboards/fans/AC, and whitewashing in all rooms of the Ministry.
  • On 17th April 2023, the Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs administered the ‘Swachhata Pledge.’ This was done to spread awareness and importance of Swachhata in one’s life. To further spread awareness, the Swachhata Pledge was also administered to students in colleges/schools through the organization of special sittings of Youth Parliament.
  • The efforts put in by the employees of the Ministry during the Swachhata Pakhwada were commendable. As a result, 92 files were reviewed, out of which 32 files were weeded out, and a revenue of Rs 67,900/- was generated by auctioning of old obsolete items which were identified during the Pakhwada.
  • The top three sections of the Ministry who stood the best on Swachhata Parameters during Pakhwada were awarded prizes.
